Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has rejected the explanation and public apology issued by Florida Bus Company after a video showing its buses allegedly racing along the National Highway in Cagayan went viral on June 8, 2025.
Acting on the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to prioritize the safety of commuters and motorists, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) swiftly ordered regulatory action. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) suspended the franchise of 15 Florida Bus units for 30 days. These units operate routes from Sta. Ana to Sampaloc in Cagayan and from Baguio to Apayao.
“This is not something we can just brush aside simply because no one was hurt. Iβve seen Florida Bus Co.βs statement and apologyβand Iβm saying it now: apology not accepted,” said Secretary Dizon.
In addition to the franchise suspension, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) imposed a 90-day license suspension on the drivers involved. All company drivers will also undergo mandatory drug testing.
βTo those who think the President and the DOTr arenβt seriousβthis is your wake-up call,β Dizon warned. βLet this be a strong message to all PUV companies: actions like these will have serious consequences.β
Dizon also had strong words for the drivers involved: βItβs hard to lose your job these days, but because of what you did, you’re suspended for 90 days. And if we catch Florida Bus Co. allowing any of you back on the road during this period, there will be even harsher penalties.β
