The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), in partnership with the Philippine Rugby Football Union (PRFU) and the national team Philippine Volcanoes, hosted a rugby clinic at the New Clark City Athletics Stadium to promote sports and youth development in nearby communities.
Themed “Empowering Youths, Celebrating Heritage,” the clinic brought together around 30 young participants from Sitio Tilik and Sitio Telapilun in Bamban, and Brgy. Sta. Lucia in Capas, Tarlac. Guided by members of the Volcanoes, the youth were introduced to rugby through fun drills and team activities, fostering values of discipline, teamwork, and resilience.

This marks the second collaboration between BCDA and PRFU, further strengthening grassroots sports initiatives in New Clark City—home to the National Academy of Sports. BCDA Vice President for Public Affairs Leilani Barlongay-Macasaet emphasized the role of New Clark City as a nurturing hub for learning and sports, while PRFU President Ada Milby underscored their goal of bringing rugby closer to more communities.
The event also featured a lecture by Ayta Ethno Botanical Center (AEBC) Project Manager Prof. Florencia Charito Imperial-Sebastian, PhD, highlighting BCDA’s ongoing work with indigenous communities on sustainable farming and cultural preservation.
The rugby clinic was held on September 13, 2025, coinciding with the Volcanoes’ training for the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series. The national teams are also preparing for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games in Thailand this December, where they will defend their medals in both men’s and women’s divisions.
