Converge ICT Solutions, Inc. extended its outreach efforts to marginalized mothers and children under the Clark Development Corporation’s (CDC) Pagsasarili Program by teaching essential online safety tips and offering a livelihood opportunity through its Surf2Sawa prepaid fiber internet product.
Held on May 22, 2025, the initiative focused on equipping 30 mothers and their children with practical knowledge to avoid common online threats—especially scams targeting low-income families seeking better means of livelihood.
“Our program today is especially for mothers, in celebration of Mother’s Day month, to help them understand how to protect themselves online amid the surge of scams via text and internet,” said Converge Community Relations Manager Jennifer Ambanta-Realubit.
Clark Development Corporation’s Capacity Building Officer II, Armin Rivera, emphasized the vulnerability of low-income families to online scams. “The poor are especially targeted because of their desire to earn more for their families. We’re thankful to Converge for enlightening these mothers about scams and encouraging them to say no to dubious online offers,” he said.
Jocel de Guzman, Co-Founder and Co-Lead Convenor of Scam Watch Pilipinas, educated the participants on the dangers of phishing and the different types of scams—from job and investment scams to fake loans and romance cons. He urged the group to always verify online contacts, especially when money or personal information is at stake.
In addition to the cyber safety session, Jericho Mamangun of Converge MSP JK2L2 introduced the mothers to the company’s Surf2Sawa prepaid fiber internet as a potential small business, giving them the option to earn by becoming local sellers in their communities.
This initiative is part of Converge’s ongoing partnership with CDC, which includes not just digital literacy training but also health missions and educational support for the Aeta community—providing connectivity and learning devices to aid in online schooling.
