DA targets unlicensed Hog Farms in Central Luzon

The Department of Agriculture (DA), through the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), has issued show cause orders to nine hog farms in Bulacan, Tarlac, and Pampanga for operating without the required permits.

The crackdown comes amid ongoing efforts to enforce health, safety, and environmental standards in the livestock industry. It also supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to regulate hog farming and strengthen the country’s food supply chain.

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. warned that unauthorized operations threaten the government’s efforts to stabilize pork supply and prices, especially as the sector recovers from the effects of African Swine Fever.

“As we modernize Philippine agriculture, compliance is non-negotiable. Unlicensed operations will not be tolerated,” Laurel emphasized.

BAI Acting Director Christian Daquigan confirmed the orders were served shortly after the midterm elections. The agency is currently reviewing farm responses and may pursue further action if necessary.

Laurel has directed BAI to expand its inspection efforts nationwide as part of a broader push to professionalize livestock operations and protect public health.
