Globe has fully upgraded over 600 towns across the country to pure fiber connectivity, replacing outdated copper lines with faster, more reliable broadband that supports remote work, online learning, business, and public services.
Now 100% copper-free, these areas benefit from high-speed internet and contribute to a greener future. The shift to fiber reduces Globeβs environmental footprint and discourages illegal salvaging, as fiber has no resale value.
βThis is more than a tech upgradeβitβs a lifeline for communities,β said Joel Agustin, Globeβs Head of Network Planning. βBut we need everyoneβs help to protect these lines. Cutting fiber doesnβt profit anyone, but it harms thousands.β
Despite fiber having no resale value, Globe reported that 40% of early fiberized towns still experienced cable cuts. In some areas, this remains an issue due to misinformation and old habits.
Globe urges the public to:
- Report suspicious activity near fiber lines or utility poles
- Support barangay patrols and community watch programs
- Encourage local officials to pass infrastructure protection ordinances
A single cable cut can affect homes, schools, and businesses for hoursβor even days. Globe continues to work with LGUs and national agencies to prevent and respond to these disruptions.
