Scams have become one of today’s most serious global threats, affecting individuals, businesses, and governments alike. In the Philippines alone, one in three people has been targeted in the past year, resulting in fraud losses worth USD 8.1 billion—about 1.9% of the country’s GDP. Despite this, two-thirds of victims do not report incidents, allowing scammers to operate unchecked.
At the Global Anti-Scam Summit (GASS) Asia 2025, Globe Telecom called for stronger global collaboration to combat online fraud. The two-day event gathered over 1,000 participants from government agencies, financial institutions, tech companies, and civil society to develop solutions that can keep pace with the rapid evolution of scams.
Derick Adil, Globe Head of AI and Privacy Governance and Co-chair of the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA) Philippines Chapter, emphasized the urgency of cross-border cooperation: “Fraud today moves at digital speed, exploiting new technologies like AI to deceive people faster than ever. While we’ve blocked over 9 billion scam messages and developed tools like SMS Scam Shield, we know this fight requires a united front across countries and industries.”
Adil showcased Globe’s StopSpam reporting portal and the SMS Scam Shield feature on the GlobeOne app for Android, which automatically filters text-based phishing messages at no cost to users. He also cited Globe’s collaboration with banks, regulators, and law enforcement to share data, disrupt fraud networks, and boost public awareness.
On the sidelines of the summit, Globe executives met with Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) Undersecretary Alexander Aboy to discuss stronger cross-border cooperation and cybercrime prevention efforts—underscoring the Philippines’ growing role in global cyber diplomacy.
Globe Business VP Glenn Estrella also stressed that combating scams is a shared responsibility:
“Protecting people from scams is no longer optional—it’s a duty that transcends industries and borders.”
As the Chair of GASA’s Philippine Chapter, Globe leads coordination efforts among telcos, e-commerce platforms, government agencies, and advocacy groups. By 2026, the chapter plans to expand education programs, intelligence sharing, and international campaigns to counter scams that transcend boundaries.
Alongside these initiatives, Globe continues to invest in digital literacy programs such as Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP), Senior Digizen, and Safe Space: A Kid’s Guide to Data Privacy, empowering Filipinos to protect themselves in the digital world.
The summit concluded with a unified call for global collaboration—affirming Globe’s commitment to build a safer, more trustworthy digital ecosystem through innovation, partnership, and shared vigilance.
