AFTER a popular clamor and of course, pressure from Filipinos, the Independent Commission on Infrastructure or ICI will now start livestreaming its probe on the controversial flood control project anomalies starting next week.
The ICI, created through Executive Order 94 issued by President BongBong Marcos โJr. on September 11, is tasked to investigate and recommend appropriate charges against government officials, employees, or private individuals involved in anomalies in flood control and related projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways within the last 10 years.
Composed of former Supreme Court Justice Andres Reyes Jr., former DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson, SGV Country Managing Partner Rossana Fajardo, former Philippine National Police Chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr. and Brian Keith Hosaka, the ICI, for over a month now, has been conducting investigation and has already invited several controversial figures including the Discaya couple, Bryce Hernandez, Henry Alcantara and former Speaker Martin Romualdez, to name a few.
The Filipino people are indeed interested in the controversial flood control controversy most especially, the personalities involved are high officials in government and the money concerned is staggering—to the tune of Trillions of Pesos.
When the Senate and the House of Representatives were still conducting their investigation, in aid of legislation, Filipinos were glued to their televisions and cellular phones watching each and every episode of the flood control drama.
We have learned how DPWH officials and legislators insert huge amount of the peopleโs money to fund โguni-guniโ projects. We have learned how much senators and congressmen receive as kick-backs, we have seen how proud the Discayas are with their loot and we have seen how senators and congressmen accuse one another of gaining from the controversy.
When the ICI was created, the House halted its investigation and instead let the ICI do its thing. The senate continued for a while until it ceased its probe because of bickering among themselves.
So, for almost a month, Filipinos were at a lost as they have nothing to watch and nothing to debate on to satisfy their cravings for answers and accountability.
Since they have nothing to do and have no clue on what was going-on with the ICI investigation, they went to the streets to protestโฆ they have called for the ouster of BBM, the ouster of Inday Sara, the ouster of Romualdez, Zaldy Co, Jinggoy, Joel, Chiz and many more.
The ICI said they are feeling the anger of the people that is why they have decided to subject the hearings on livestreamโฆ and they are right in their decision to let the Filipino people be aware of the conduct of the probe.
Well, I have to surmise that it was PBBM who ordered the ICI to make their investigation public because of the clamor of the peopleโฆ as I think he is feeling the pressure that his late father felt in 1986.
Let the people be given the right to knowโฆ let the people judge as the trillions of money involved in this mess is the peopleโs money.
So, let us all watch the proceedings starting next week. As for me, I will watch the reply of it every night and be a self-proclaimed midnight political analyst again.
