The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued more than 1,000 special bus permits to manage the expected influx of commuters during Holy Week.
In a statement on Wednesday, LTFRB Chair Teofilo Guadiz III announced that 1,018 special permits were granted, valid from April 11 to 27, covering the Holy Week period and a few additional days.
To ensure passenger safety and convenience, LTFRB personnel began conducting random inspections of public utility vehicles (PUVs) and terminals starting April 7. These inspections will continue throughout the travel rush. The checks focus on the validity of operators’ documents, vehicle markings, and safety accessories.
“We remind passengers to plan their trips early, check travel schedules, and ensure their tickets and other necessary documents are in order,” Guadiz said.
LTFRB will also begin monitoring private terminals starting Friday to ensure they have help desks and adequate staff.
Guadiz cautioned the public to avoid unregistered or “colorum” vehicles, which pose safety risks as they haven’t passed proper inspections and lack passenger insurance.
For assistance, the public can reach the LTFRB 24/7 hotline at 1342, visit its official Facebook page, or email complaints@ltfrb.gov.ph. (Philippine News Agency)
