Mayoral bet Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab vows to address business sector concerns in CSF

Mayoral hopeful Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab has pledged to address persistent concerns of the local business community if elected in the upcoming May 12 polls, citing a need for more transparent and responsive city governance.

In a recent dialogue with key business leaders, Pineda-Cayabyab listened to frustrations over bureaucratic delays, alleged extortion, and inefficiencies within the current city administration. She said the meeting confirmed the deepening dissatisfaction among entrepreneurs.

“These issues have long been raised. What’s different now is that we’re hearing it directly from those who suffer the consequences—businesses that are losing time and money,” she said in Filipino.

Among the top concerns aired were red tape, slow processing of permits and licenses, and alleged irregularities in government dealings. Local business owners also highlighted unreliable water services provided by Prime Water Holdings, pointing to frequent interruptions and poor response times that disrupt both operations and daily life.

Business leaders urged Pineda-Cayabyab to investigate possible irregularities behind the worsening utility services.

In response, Pineda-Cayabyab laid out key parts of her economic agenda, which includes revitalizing public markets, supporting Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), and launching a “Business Friendly Fernandino” (BFF) program to streamline processes and eliminate red tape.

She also emphasized the importance of infrastructure and road development to attract and retain investments.

“I envision a local government that collaborates with the business sector and helps it thrive—not one that hinders its growth,” she said.
