The Philippine National Police (PNP) is calling on commercial establishments to strengthen coordination with law enforcement following a foiled robbery at a shopping mall in Pampanga.
Pampanga Police Provincial Office (PPO) Director PCol Jay Dimaandal said response efforts were delayed due to internal protocols of the mall, including restricted access to CCTV footage and limited coordination systems.
“We respect the internal safety protocols of businesses, but they should not hinder immediate response in critical situations. Public safety is a shared responsibility, and real-time coordination is crucial during emergencies,” Dimaandal emphasized.
The incident, which ended without injuries, has prompted discussions between the police and the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (PamCham) on improving public-private security partnerships.
Police are recommending that malls and other establishments establish direct communication lines with local police stations and provide immediate access to surveillance footage when needed. They also encourage businesses to conduct joint simulation drills, designate security liaisons, and formalize cooperation through agreements.
“We need unified protocols on how to secure and share surveillance data during emergencies. PamCham can help us draft guidelines that ensure faster action,” Dimaandal said.
The Pampanga PPO is also enhancing visibility patrols and expanding its community-based safety initiatives as part of its broader crime prevention efforts.
Dimaandal reiterated that businesses, especially those with high-value goods and heavy foot traffic, must review and strengthen their security frameworks.
“We are committed to doing our part, but we need the full cooperation of the business sector. Safety and security are everyone’s responsibility,” he said.
