𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲? 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲—𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁?
For its second edition, Benilde Open Design + Art invites designers, artists, engineers, architects, technologists, storytellers, and creative thinkers across the Philippines to explore these ideas under the 2025 theme: “Extension of Nature.” This nationwide open call challenges participants to envision a future where art, design, and technology move with the environment—not against it.
Inspired by the evolving world of kinetic art—where creations move, adapt, and respond—this year’s theme draws from the ingenuity of Leonardo da Vinci, the poetic machines of David Medalla, and today’s solar-powered, sensor-driven works. The initiative welcomes experimentation across robotics, hybrid ecosystems, reclaimed materials, and more—pushing the limits of both function and form.
Benilde Open Design + Art champions ambitious ideas in progress. Up to ten selected projects will receive as much as ₱300,000 each in production grants. Finalists will be chosen by a distinguished jury of local and international creatives.
Also running is Best of Benilde, a special category for Benilde students. Five outstanding proposals will each receive a ₱50,000 grant, providing an opportunity for students to take bold school projects into real-world development.
The initiative is led by a powerhouse team of convenors—Ayi Magpayo, Rita Nazareno, Gabby Lichauco, Joselina Cruz, and Dindin Araneta—in collaboration with De La Salle University and supported by Br. Dodo Fernandez FSC, Benilde President and practicing visual artist.
As Benilde marks its 35th founding year, it continues to champion inclusive innovation and creative leadership across industries. Through initiatives like this, the College cultivates futures that are—truly— Like No Other.
