In celebration of National Volunteerism Month, SM Cares once again reaffirmed its commitment to empowering individuals and communities through its wide-ranging volunteer programs and partnerships.
All year long, SM employee-volunteers, tenants, and community partners worked together in outreach efforts designed to uplift lives and protect the environment. Among the many initiatives were large-scale coastal cleanup drives, youth-led activities like the Global Youth Summit, inclusive events such as the Happy Walk and ASP Angels Walk, and service-driven engagements including Brigada Eskwela and Operation Tulong Express.

Each program reflects SM Cares’ mission to engage various sectors of society in meaningful action. In 2024 alone, more than 1,500 SM employees took part in volunteer initiatives including Angels Walk, Happy Walk, Operation Tulong Express, and Brigada Eskwela. Coastal cleanups gathered over 27,000 volunteers nationwide, underscoring the strong collective commitment to environmental protection. Meanwhile, the Global Youth Summit gathered around 1,000 student volunteers, highlighting the important role of youth in driving positive change.
These efforts were made possible through partnerships with government agencies such as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Department of Education (DepEd), the Global Peace Foundation, and other organizations.
Beyond one-time events, SM Cares’ volunteer programs are designed to empower people from all walks of life, promoting inclusion and encouraging everyone—employees, partners, and citizens—to contribute to the betterment of their communities.
“Through volunteerism, we build bridges of empathy, understanding, and shared purpose,” said SM Supermalls President Steven Tan. “SM Cares is proud to nurture this culture of giving back, where everyone, regardless of age or ability, can play a role in shaping a better future.”
As SM Cares continues to promote volunteerism, the public is invited to participate in future activities and experience how small acts of service can create lasting impact, one community at a time.
