The spotlight was on young wordsmiths last Saturday, September 6, as SM City Bataan hosted the SM Super Spelling Bee 2025 at its Event Center. Students from schools across the province competed in the much-anticipated contest, showcasing their spelling skills and quick thinking.
After several intense rounds, Axel M. Buenaventura of Balanga Elementary School clinched the championship by confidently spelling the word “stubble” in the final round.
For his victory, Axel received ₱10,000 worth of gift certificates from SM and an additional ₱10,000 gift certificate from National Bookstore.

Axel will now carry the pride of Bataan as he competes in the National Finals of the SM Super Spelling Bee 2025 on October 4, 2025 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall. The grand showdown offers over ₱3 million worth of prizes, including scholarships from National University, gadgets from SM Cyberzone and Power Mac Center, and school supplies from National Bookstore.
The SM Super Spelling Bee continues to nurture academic excellence, confidence, and the love for learning among Filipino students—one word at a time.
