SPORTS IS NATION-BUILDING – Cayetano

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano emphasized the nation-building power of sports as he rallied support behind the country’s hosting of the FIVB Men’s World Championship 2025 during “Spike for a Cause,” a fundraising dinner and fashion show for the Philippine men’s volleyball team, Alas Pilipinas.

“Every single value we want for our country—teamwork, discipline, sacrifice—is found in sports,” Cayetano said in his speech. “This event isn’t just about giving thanks. It’s about building a better Philippines.”

As co-chair of the tournament’s local organizing committee (LOC), Cayetano highlighted how sports values echo in families, schools, businesses, and communities. “From anti-drug efforts to youth development, sports is one of our strongest tools.”

He thanked fellow LOC co-chair Vincent Marcos, early backers of the Philippines’ bid, and partners from the business, fashion, and media sectors, calling their collaboration “a powerful example of unity for a national cause.”

“This isn’t just a fundraising event—it’s a statement of who we are as Filipinos,” he said. “We rise to the occasion. Whether it’s the SEA Games, basketball, or now volleyball—we will showcase the best of the Filipino.”

The senator also urged prayers for peace and the tournament’s success. “Prayers move mountains,” he said. “Let’s offer our support for all the athletes and organizers involved.”

The 2025 FIVB Men’s World Championship will mark the Philippines’ first time to host the prestigious global event, welcoming 32 national teams to compete before Filipino and international audiences.
