Senator Win Gatchalian has vowed to back the judiciary with sufficient budgetary support to help speed up the resolution of cases and restore public trust, particularly in light of corruption cases involving government officials.
“The Committee on Finance wants to make sure that the courts and the different levels of the judiciary are well equipped with the necessary budget and tools that will enable them to dispense cases as soon as possible so we can render justice,” said Gatchalian, who chairs the Senate Committee on Finance, during a recent budget hearing.
He emphasized that the judiciary must also develop a roadmap to efficiently manage case backlogs, noting that judges currently handle an average of 291 cases each. For 2026, the judiciary’s proposed budget under the National Expenditure Program amounts to P64.013 billion.
