In celebration of its 60th founding anniversary, Northern Samar is set to host the Ibabao Festival 2025 Sunrise Standard Triathlon Recon Race on Sunday, June 1, featuring 60 racers symbolizing six decades of the province’s resilience and pride.

A signature event of the Ibabao Festival, this third edition of the triathlon pays tribute to the enduring Ibabaonon spirit while highlighting Northern Samar’s natural beauty and sports tourism potential.

The race course offers a thrilling test of endurance with a 1.5 km swim in Catarman’s eastern waters, a 40 km bike ride along scenic coastal roads and vibrant towns, and a 10 km run through lush landscapes and cheering communities.

A powerhouse roster of elite athletes and local stars will participate, including:

They will be joined by triathlon clubs including CamSur Tri, Fit PH, Go for Gold, Baguio Benguet Tri, Rockstar Tri, Santé Barley, and Century Tri, along with individual racers from across the country.

Also happening alongside the triathlon is the Ibabao Festival Sunrise Run, a community fun run for invited guests, promoting inclusive participation and festive celebration.

Now in its third year, the Ibabao Festival — initiated by Governor Edwin Ongchuan — continues to grow as a cultural and tourism highlight, drawing guests to the province’s heritage, scenery, and warm hospitality.

“This race is more than a physical challenge — it’s a celebration of place, people, and pride,” said Princess Galura, President of Sunrise Events and organizer of the triathlon. “Through this event, we showcase Northern Samar’s beauty and spirit beyond the finish line.”

The triathlon is presented by the Provincial Government of Northern Samar in partnership with local government units and Sunrise Events, solidifying the province’s dedication to sports tourism and cultural celebration.
