Eighteen elevators installed at six EDSA Busway stations are now fully operational, providing safer and more convenient access to commuters—especially senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Transportation Secretary Rene Almendras Dizon led an inspection at the Balintawak Station on Monday to ensure the functionality of the newly activated elevators, in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to make public transportation more accessible and commuter-friendly.
“This is part of our commitment to improve the commuting experience for all Filipinos. The elevators will help ensure that no passenger is left behind, particularly those who need assistance the most,” Secretary Dizon said.
The installation of elevators spans six major EDSA Busway stations, aimed at enhancing ease of movement in one of Metro Manila’s busiest transport corridors. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) assured that regular maintenance checks will be conducted to keep the facilities safe and reliable for daily use.
The EDSA Busway, a key component of the government’s push for a more efficient and inclusive mass transport system, continues to undergo improvements in passenger convenience, including better station facilities and shorter travel times.
Commuters welcomed the upgrades, noting that the elevators significantly reduce the physical strain of using elevated bus stops, especially for those with mobility challenges.
With these enhancements, the DOTr reiterates its goal of making public transport not just fast and affordable—but truly accessible for all.
