ARIZONA LAWMAKERS EXPLORE INVESTMENT AND EDUCATION TIES IN SUBIC BAY

Members of the Arizona State Legislature visited this premier Freeport on October 23, 2025, to explore potential economic and educational partnerships and strengthen Philippine–US relations.

SBMA Senior Deputy Administrator for Business and Investment Renato Lee III welcomed the delegation, calling the visit “a testament to the enduring friendship between the Philippines and the United States.”

Arizona State Representative Tony Rivero said the initiative stemmed from a 2017 meeting between Arizona’s International Relations Committee and the Philippine ambassador in Washington, D.C. “We want to establish a trade office to facilitate business investments between Arizona and the Philippines. This is a historic moment of shared history and future collaboration,” Rivero said.

He added that Arizona aims to enhance workforce and educational cooperation while recognizing the Philippines’ strategic role in regional development and maritime security.

The delegation, composed of representatives from both Republican and Democratic parties, also met with the Philippine Coast Guard to discuss maritime regional security and potential joint initiatives.

Bataan 3rd District Representative Maria Angela “Gila” Garcia joined the visit, presenting Central Luzon’s ecozones—including the Freeport Area of Bataan—as ideal locations for investment and partnership.

The group toured facilities across Subic Bay, including Redondo Peninsula, and lauded how business and environmental sustainability coexist in the area.
