Aboitiz Renewables backs Benguet’s flower farmers through royalty shares

Aboitiz Renewables, Inc. (ARI), the renewable energy arm of AboitizPower, is strengthening Benguet’s local floriculture industry by turning over more than ₱600,000 in royalty shares to indigenous peoples organizations hosting its hydropower plants. The Tagadi Aguyao Indigenous People Organization (TAIPO) in Tuba and the Pahnga ni Sabdang Indigenous Peoples Organization (PASIPO) in Sablan are using the funds to expand anthurium farms and upgrade production facilities—boosting livelihoods and supporting Benguet’s reputation as a major flower supplier.

TAIPO received ₱169,664.18 from the 3.8-MW Irisan I Hydropower Plant, while PASIPO received ₱510,000 from the 8-MW Ampohaw Hydropower Plant, benefiting over 50 anthurium farmers. TAIPO President Anita Madarang highlighted how the support sustains traditional practices and future generations, while PASIPO President Lilian Balangue said the funding allows strategic investments in planting materials and greenhouses to reach more buyers. Both groups expect about a 15% increase in production in the coming years.

Noreen Vicencio, ARI First Vice President and General Manager for Hydro Operations, emphasized that the initiative ensures clean energy development directly uplifts host communities, making growth both sustainable and inclusive.
