Angeles City cracks down on mendicancy, rescues minors

The Angeles City Government has intensified its rescue operations and enforcement of anti-mendicancy laws to protect vulnerable individuals and uphold public safety in busy areas across the city.

As of 8:00 PM on August 5, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) reported that 23 individuals—13 minors (4 females and 9 males) and 10 adults (5 females and 5 males)—were reached during the ongoing operations.

Seven of those rescued were referred to the Kanlungan ng Kabataan Reformation Center for further care and support. The remaining 16 were issued a first warning, reminding them of the city’s ordinances and the need for compliance.

This initiative is a coordinated effort involving the CSWDO, Angeles City Tourist Information Visitors and Engagement (ACTIVE), Angeles City Police Office (ACPO), Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD), Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ACDRRMO), and Barangay Balibago Peace and Anti-Drug Support Teams (BPATS).

Under the directive of Mayor Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II, the city aims to maintain safe and orderly public spaces, and curb activities such as mendicancy that may pose risks to both those involved and the wider public.
