BOC-NAIA foils ₱27.25M meth smuggling attempt

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) successfully intercepted a drug smuggling attempt at Terminal 3.

Authorities seized approximately 4,008 grams of methamphetamine—valued at around ₱27,254,400—concealed in the hand-carry baggage of a passenger who arrived on February 19, 2026.

The operation was carried out through close coordination between BOC-NAIA, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Task Group (NAIA-IADTG), ensuring thorough examination, documentation, and custody of the seized drugs.

The suspect, an Australian national, has been arrested for violation of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and is now undergoing inquest and prosecution proceedings.

Customs Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno emphasized the importance of sustained enforcement and inter-agency cooperation to prevent international airports from being exploited by drug trafficking networks.

District Collector Atty. Yasmin O. Mapa reinforced the Port’s zero-tolerance policy, stating: “NAIA is a critical gateway, and every attempt to misuse it is treated with the highest level of seriousness. Our officers are trained to detect even the most concealed contraband, and we will continue working closely with our partner agencies to ensure that those who attempt to bring illegal drugs into the country are immediately intercepted and prosecuted.”

The Bureau of Customs remains committed to strict border controls and continued collaboration with law enforcement to protect public safety and uphold national security.
