BOC intercepts ₱43.4M cocaine at NAIA Terminal 3

The Bureau of Customs at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BOC-NAIA) foiled another drug smuggling attempt after intercepting 8.197 kilograms of suspected cocaine, valued at approximately ₱43.4 million, from an arriving passenger at NAIA Terminal 3 on January 29, 2026.

Customs officers flagged the passenger’s checked-in baggage during x-ray screening, noting suspicious images. A 100-percent physical inspection uncovered a white powdery substance later confirmed as cocaine. The passenger is now facing inquest proceedings under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act (RA 9165) and the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (RA 10863).

BOC Commissioner Ariel F. Nepomuceno praised the operation, saying it demonstrates the vigilance of Customs personnel and the strength of border control measures. NAIA District Collector Atty. Yasmin O. Mapa. emphasized that officers remain committed to keeping the airport safe from drug traffickers.

This latest seizure follows similar BOC-NAIA operations, where traffickers attempted to hide cocaine in luggage compartments and linings, highlighting a recurring modus operandi at the country’s main international airport.

The Bureau of Customs continues to enhance inspections and inter-agency coordination in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to intensify efforts against illegal drugs and safeguard public safety.
