CBCP calls for church bells, prayers for Pope Francis

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) is urging churches across the country to ring their bells in mourning and prayer following the death of Pope Francis on Monday at the age of 88.

CBCP President, Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio Cardinal David, made the call through a social media post, inviting the faithful to pray for the eternal repose of the Holy Father’s soul.

“Let us please ring the bells of our churches and call our people to prayer for the eternal repose of the Holy Father Pope Francis,” Cardinal David wrote.

Pope Francis passed away in the early morning of April 21 at his residence in Casa Santa Marta, Vatican City. The announcement was made by Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber.

The Holy Father had recently been discharged from the hospital where he was treated for double pneumonia.

Pope Francis led the Roman Catholic Church for 12 years, beginning his papacy on March 13, 2013, following the resignation of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.
