Celebrating Heritage and Innovation: TPB’s ‘Pasasalamat’ at the New Centro de Turismo Intramuros

Intramuros, the historic heart of Manila, stands as a perfect blend of the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage and forward-thinking innovation. In the newly unveiled Centro de Turismo at Calle Arzobispo, visitors are invited to explore a space that bridges the gap between the past and the future. From pre-colonial influences to Spanish-era religious artifacts, Centro de Turismo embodies the Filipino spirit of transformation, turning centuries-old traditions into a modern expression of collective identity.

On January 27, 2025, the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines hosted its annual ‘Pasasalamat’ event at the center, honoring the media professionals and content creators who have played a key role in showcasing the Philippines to the world. The event was a heartfelt gesture of appreciation for their efforts in sharing the dynamic regions of the country on the global stage.

“Pasasalamat is our way of recognizing the invaluable contributions of our partners in helping us share the wonders of the Philippines,” said TPB Chief Operating Officer Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles. “Through your dedication and support, we have been able to achieve these milestones and inspire travelers to explore our country,” she added.

The ‘Pasasalamat’ event celebrated the success of the Philippines’ tourism campaigns, with the historic Centro de Turismo providing the perfect backdrop. The venue’s rich history was woven seamlessly into the evening’s performances, which featured Acapellago’s modern renditions of Filipino classics and breathtaking cultural presentations from the Sindaw Performing Arts Guild.

In her address, COO Nograles emphasized the transformative role tourism plays in creating opportunities for communities and preserving the environment. She also highlighted the TPB’s success, noting a remarkable ₱11.3 billion in sales leads generated in 2024—an impressive 44.8% increase from the previous year.

“Our progress is a testament to the power of collaboration,” said Nograles. “Together, we are the storytellers of our nation. Let today’s gathering remind us of the importance of working together for a brighter, more sustainable future.”

After the program, guests were invited to join a guided tour of the venue, discovering the stories that define Philippine history and the importance of spaces like Centro de Turismo in preserving this legacy. As the event concluded, there was a renewed sense of optimism for the future of Philippine tourism, with the TPB reaffirming its mission to promote sustainable tourism that creates opportunities for all Filipinos.
