Converge ICT Solutions Inc., a leading Philippine fiber broadband and technology provider, is tackling the rising threat of cybercrime by highlighting the importance of self-education in combating online threats. With internet service providers playing a key role in the “supply chain” of cybercrime, Converge is emphasizing proactive steps to safeguard online activities.
The company will host a multi-stakeholder webinar on February 14, titled “Building Resilience Against Online Scams,” to raise awareness about the evolving landscape of cybercrime. Converge Chief Executive Advisor Eugene Yeo, a digital technology expert, will lead the discussion.

Yeo, who has led numerous transformation projects for top tech companies in Singapore, warned that cybercrime is increasingly driven by artificial intelligence. He noted, “These malicious agents are no longer humans, but AI. While we can block illicit attempts to penetrate our network, a better approach is to leverage AI technology to fight AI-based threats. That’s what we’re doing internally at Converge.”
In 2024, Converge successfully blocked a record 183 billion cyber attack attempts, targeting over 683,000 URLs/domains registered as illegal. This number is 18 times higher than the 10-12 billion attempts recorded from 2021 to 2023.
Converge has also partnered with organizations such as Stairway Foundation, which promotes children’s rights through awareness and community support, to combat online threats like Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC). Additionally, Converge works with the Internet Watch Foundation, which provides a comprehensive database to help block OSAEC content from its network.
The company’s efforts align with the recent Safer Internet Day 2025, organized by the Department of Justice on February 11, which raised concerns about AI’s role in creating child sexual abuse materials. Undersecretary Nicholas Felix Ty of the Department of Justice emphasized that materials, whether AI-generated or real, are still considered child sexual abuse or exploitation under the law.
To further its commitment, Converge will invite government agencies, including Undersecretary Alexander Ramos from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), to discuss proposed amendments to the Anti-Cybercrime Law. Atty. Laurice Esteban-Tuason, Converge’s Corporate Compliance and Data Protection Officer, will also speak about the company’s efforts to protect customer data.
“As part of our commitment to sustainability, we recognize that cybersecurity is integral to protecting our customers, our operations, and the broader digital ecosystem. A secure digital environment is a sustainable one, and we remain steadfast in our efforts to create a safer online space for all,” Esteban-Tuason said.
Additionally, Converge’s partner, ScamWatch PH, will provide proactive tips for avoiding online scams. The NGO’s co-convenor, Jocel De Guzman, will share insights on how to stay protected in the digital space.
In 2024, Converge also launched Project PIGLET, a digital literacy initiative in partnership with Francisco Legaspi Memorial School (FLMS) in Pasig, to teach young students responsible online behavior.
Converge continues to prioritize online safety by focusing its awareness campaigns on issues such as OSAEC and digitally-enabled “love scams,” aiming to foster a safer digital environment for all.
The public can join the webinar, which will be livestreamed on Converge’s official Facebook page at 10:00 AM on February 14.
