DFA supports rescheduled pre-enrollment for online voting system

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has expressed its support for the rescheduling of the pre-enrollment period for the Online Voting and Counting System (OVCS), now set to begin on March 20, 2025, instead of the original March 10 date. This adjustment aims to ensure a seamless implementation of the new voting system.

In a statement released on Saturday, the DFA commended the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for its decision, calling it a testament to Comelec’s commitment to protecting the integrity of elections for overseas Filipinos.

“The DFA appreciates Comelec’s move to delay the pre-enrollment period, allowing sufficient time to ensure that the OVCS meets all the necessary tests and certifications outlined in the Election Automation Law (Republic Act 9369) before its launch,” the department said.

The DFA reaffirmed its readiness to roll out the OVCS as soon as it receives directives from Comelec, reiterating its dedication to ensuring that Filipino voters abroad can cast their votes securely and efficiently.

The overseas voting period will run from April 13 to May 12, and eligible overseas Filipinos must first complete the pre-registration process at www.comelec.gov.ph to participate in the OVCS. (PNA)
