Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon on Tuesday formally welcomed former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr. as the new adviser of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI).
Dizon met with Azurin and former ICI adviser Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong in Manila to discuss measures that will fast-track the ongoing investigation into anomalous flood control projects.
“We need to move quickly for the sake of our people. Everyone is frustrated and wants accountability,” Dizon said, emphasizing that t he government is determined to identify and hold those responsible for the irregularities. He added that he will soon introduce Azurin to other ICI members to accelerate the commission’s work.
Dizon also expressed confidence in Azurin’s appointment, citing President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s consistent directive that no one will be spared in the ongoing probe. “General Jun shares that commitment,” he said, referring to Azurin by his nickname.
Azurin, for his part, vowed to uphold the President’s stance on accountability. “I have yet to receive the President’s marching orders, but I share his determination not to spare anyone involved. With the help of every Filipino, we will build strong cases to ensure justice,” he said.
Dizon also thanked Mayor Magalong for his continued assistance despite stepping down as ICI adviser. “Even though he’s no longer officially part of the commission, Mayor Benjie’s support remains invaluable,” he said.
In related news, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) turned over documents to the ICI related to its ongoing investigation into alleged anomalous flood-control projects and related cases, including those involving the Discaya family. These include enforcement reports, warrants, importation documents, and progress updates.
BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno reaffirmed the bureau’s commitment to transparency and cooperation** with oversight bodies, saying, “Under President Marcos Jr.’s guidance, the bureau continues to uphold integrity and good governance through strengthened inter-agency coordination.”
