DPWH completes Kennon Road sinkhole rehabilitation

The Department of Public Works and Highways–Cordillera Administrative Region (DPWH-CAR), through the Baguio City District Engineering Office, has completed the rehabilitation of a sinking portion of Uabac along Kennon Road (K0242+755 RS).

The agency responded immediately after a roadway subsidence was reported on February 2, 2026. Initial safety measures included the construction of a hand-laid rock embankment and the installation of caution tape and plastic barriers to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians while detailed inspections were conducted.

Permanent repair works began on February 3, starting with the removal of the existing concrete pavement to allow a full engineering assessment. During the inspection, engineers discovered additional voids beneath one of the slabs, prompting the expansion of the repair area to ensure long-term structural stability.

Rehabilitation works included reblocking the affected lane, installation of reinforcing bars, and pouring of new concrete, gradually restoring the roadway to a stable condition.

Despite the completion of repair works, the affected section remains one-lane passable as the newly poured concrete is still undergoing curing. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and follow traffic advisories when passing through the area.
