The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has placed all its field offices on full alert and readied its complete array of relief assistance in anticipation of Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong).
According to Assistant Secretary Leo Quintilla of the Disaster Response Management Group, the DSWD has over 2.04 million family food packs (FFPs) prepositioned in various regional hubs, spokes, and last-mile warehouses nationwide.
“The DSWD is ready. We have a total of 2,040,813 family food boxes, 314,000 non-food items, and 91,101 ready-to-eat food packs,” Quintilla said.
Quintilla, who also serves as the officer-in-charge of the National Resource and Logistics Management Bureau, reported that disaster response teams are on standby and closely coordinating with local government units (LGUs) along Uwan’s projected path.
He added that water filtration kits are also being prepositioned, particularly in Northern Luzon, where the typhoon is expected to bring heavy rains and possible flooding.
“Starting this weekend until Monday, we will deploy portable water filtration kits, especially in North Luzon,” he said.
The portable filtration systems can remove bacteria such as cholera, salmonella, and E. coli, and can be quickly deployed to evacuation centers or communities whose water systems may be affected by the typhoon.
Aside from relief goods, the DSWD has also prepared mobile command centers, mobile kitchens, water trucks, and water treatment units for immediate deployment to LGUs that may require assistance.
Earlier, Quintilla presided over a virtual coordination meeting with regional officials to ensure readiness and real-time monitoring of Typhoon Uwan’s impact.
