DTI, Tarlac Consumer Council brief teachers on consumer protection

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Tarlac Consumer Council Incorporated (TCCI) conducted a Consumer Awareness and Responsiveness Education Seminar for about 22 faculty members of Matatalaib Bato Elementary School.

It aims to empower consumers and promote awareness about their rights and responsibilities.

DTI OIC-Provincial Director Florencia Balilo said they have chosen educators as target audience to pass on the learnings to learners.

“We at the Department of Trade and Industry are committed to fostering informed consumer decisions, which is why we also targeted teachers not only for their own awareness, but for them to be equipped with the necessary knowledge so that they may also effectively educate and guide their students on the importance of being empowered consumers,” she emphasized.

Topics discussed include a brief overview of DTI’s mandate on consumer protection; the eight consumer rights; 3Rs or repair, replace, and refund; five consumer responsibilities; and Republic Act 10909 otherwise known as the No Shortchanging Act.

Further, TCCI Vice President Erlinda Ortiz shared the role of the council in advocating consumer rights and the activities they are participating in.
