Following the recent onslaught of super typhoon Egay and the subsequent heavy rains brought by typhoon Falcon, the Mabalacat City Government, led by Mayor Crisostomo Garbo has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents.
With the Southwest Monsoon or “habagat” intensifying and expected to continue dumping rain in several areas of the country, Mabalacat City stands ready to face any potential disasters.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), and City Engineering Office (CEO) have joined forces to implement comprehensive disaster preparedness strategies. These departments have been closely monitoring the city’s vulnerable areas and barangays, including Sapang Biabas, Pentoy Compound, Dau, Sitio Irong and Dungan of Tabun, and Atlu-bola.
In response to the ongoing weather disturbances, MCG has already initiated preemptive evacuation efforts. Currently, six (6) families from Barangay San Francisco are being provided with necessary assistance and are in the process of being relocated to safer grounds. This swift action aims to prevent any potential harm to residents and ensure their well-being during these challenging times.
Moreover, the city has pre-positioned three hundred (300) relief goods to be distributed among affected communities. These relief supplies include food, water, and other essential items that will help sustain the affected individuals until the situation stabilizes. The City Social Welfare and Development Office is actively working to ensure the efficient and equitable distribution of these resources.
Mayor Cris Garbo recognizes the importance of a collaborative approach in disaster preparedness. The local government has been working closely with barangay officials, various stakeholders, including community leaders, non-governmental organizations, and volunteers, to enhance their disaster response capabilities. Regular trainings, drills, and workshops are conducted to equip residents and front-line responders with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively handle emergencies.
