The Angeles City Government, led by Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr., on March 20, 2023 conducts free pap smear, breast examination and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) test to 221 female persons deprived of liberty (PDL) in the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).

This is the first time for the female PDLs to be given free medical services, for which Mayor Lazatin allocated P50,000 from his own salary.  Chief Adviser IC Calaguas and Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel will also donate P30,000 from their personal funds for the said tests. 

Members of the Gender and Development (GAD) Office led by Mina Cabiles, City Health Office (CHO) led by Dr. Verona Guevarra, and Nurse Supervisor Evelinda Mariano led the free medical services.

Mayor Lazatin wants to ensure the health and welfare of the people inside the jail.

“First time po itong gaganaping libreng pap smear, breast examination at HIV test dahil hanggad ni Mayor Pogi na mapanatiling maayos ang kalusugan ng mga PDLs natin,” Cabiles said.
