Globe Business, AORA push Open RAN Adoption in the Philippines

Globe Business, the ICT arm of Globe Telecom, has joined forces with the Asia Open RAN Academy (AORA) to drive the widespread adoption of Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) technology in the Philippines. This collaboration aims to transform the telecommunications industry by enhancing interoperability, driving vendor diversity, reducing costs, and improving network performance and efficiency.

Chaired by Achie Atienza, Director for IP Ecosystem and Strategic Infrastructure Investments at Globe Telecom, the partnership seeks to revolutionize the country’s telecom infrastructure by promoting innovation, improving connectivity, and building a skilled workforce to support the future of telecommunications.

Globe Business has shown full commitment to this initiative, hosting two major AORA events at The Globe Tower to foster collaboration and innovation within the industry.

The Collaborators Appreciation Day (ACAD, held on December 19, celebrated AORA’s progress in 2024, honoring key partners and outlining the strategic roadmap for the year ahead.

On January 16, the Strategic and Operational Planning event focused on aligning academic programs with Open RAN industry needs. State universities and colleges, along with partners like VIAVI Solutions, engaged in discussions on bridging the skills gap to prepare a workforce capable of supporting Open RAN’s growth. AORA is working closely with Globe’s network team to accelerate the technology’s adoption, with Globe playing a critical role as a founding member and active contributor to the academy.

“We are committed not only to adopting Open RAN technology but also to nurturing the talent and ecosystem needed to support and advance this initiative. The collaborations we’ve built with AORA, along with our academic, industry, and government partners, will be essential in creating a sustainable and innovative telecom landscape for the future,” said KD Dizon, Head of Globe Business.

Through its partnership with AORA, Globe Business is paving the way for a more connected, inclusive, and cost-effective digital future for the Philippines, bringing long-term benefits to businesses, communities, and the national economy.
