Globe reaffirmed its commitment to digital inclusion and sustainable connectivity during the recent Digital Bayanihan event in Tawi-Tawi, led by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
The initiative underscores a united effort between the public and private sectors to bring digital access to remote communities, opening doors to education, livelihood, and essential public services.
“Globe is proud to stand beside the national government in realizing the dream of a digitally empowered Philippines. Our work in Mindanao reflects our belief that no one should be left behind in the digital age,” said Robert Aquino, Globe AVP for Government Relations.
Infrastructure and Impact
In 2024, Globe built and upgraded nearly 2,000 cell sites across Mindanao and continues to expand its fiber network, bringing reliable mobile and broadband connectivity to underserved areas like Tawi-Tawi.
To complement infrastructure, Globe also promotes digital empowerment. In partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), it distributed nearly 500 mobile phones to 4Ps beneficiaries, enabling them to receive aid via GCash and access essential digital services.
Connectivity as a Right
“Connectivity is a human right. Through stronger infrastructure and community programs, we help Filipinos access opportunities, public services, and economic mobility,” Aquino added.
Globe also promotes responsible internet use, helping communities harness digital tools for local development and resilience.
Government and Local Leaders Unite
The event was attended by DICT Secretary Henry Aguda, NTC Commissioner Ella Blanca Lopez, Tawi-Tawi Governor Yshmael Sali, Bongao Mayor Jimuel Que, and MSU-TCTO Chancellor Dr. Mary Joyce Gunto-Salih.
Globe’s participation in Digital Bayanihan highlights its long-term partnership with the government to expand universal connectivity and create a digitally inclusive Philippines.
