Governance training for Tarlac barangay officials 

Officials from the 511 barangays in the province of Tarlac finished the Barangay Newly Elected Officials Towards Grassroots Renewal and Empowerment for Accountable and Transparent (BNEO GREAT) Basic Orientation Course.

BNEO GREAT Program is a term-based capacity development initiative by the Local Government Academy designed to empower barangay officials to fulfill their mandated tasks effectively.

In her message, Governor Susan Yap emphasized the challenges of leadership in today’s time.

“The foundation we build now is crucial because currently we face new challenges. Our constituents have different needs in education, health, employment, and economy, and you as barangay officials are the frontliner who see these needs,” Yap said.

The course covered topics such as the Basics of Republic Act 7160 otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991 for Barangays, the Barangay Development Plan and Capacity Development Agenda, and Participation in Governance through Barangay-Based Institutions and Volunteerism.

Also, Department of the Interior and Local Government programs, projects, and activities for the barangays; Public Ethics and Accountability; and the Barangay Agenda for Governance and Development.

Participants include Punong Barangays, Sangguniang Kabataan Chairpersons, Sangguniang Barangay Members, Barangay Treasurers, and Barangay Secretaries. (PIA 3 / Gabriela Liana S. Barela)
