Gov. Nanay acts swiftly to save 26 homes in Arayat from river erosion

Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda has ordered immediate emergency measures after riverbank erosion along the Pampanga River in Barangay Candating put 26 houses at risk and affected 387 families.

“This cannot be delayed. Immediate action is needed to protect our people and their livelihoods,” Governor Pineda said during her inspection on Tuesday, July 29.

Leading the ground response, Pineda personally distributed relief goods and mobilized provincial engineers to assess the damage. The riverbank collapse, first observed in August 2024, has worsened due to recent heavy rains, triggering cracks and minor landslides.

To prevent further erosion, the governor requested urgent intervention from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and ordered the dredging of river sections to reduce flood risks.

“We need to change our approach. Every project must now be climate-resilient. If redesigning is needed, let’s do it,” Pineda emphasized, aligning with President Marcos’ call for climate-adaptive infrastructure.
