City of San Fernando Mayor Vilma B. Caluag, DOTr Assistant Secretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure James Andres Melad and DPWH-3 Assistant Regional Director Melquiades Sto. Domingo, along with City Administrator Engr. Nelson Lingat and project officers from the agencies and City Government led the groundbreaking rites for the illuminated bike lanes today, June 27 at the Heroes Hall.
Leading agencies DPWH and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said this project is under the efforts of the national government to “expand active transport infrastructures” in the Philippines.
Earlier, a courtesy visit to City Mayor Vilma Balle-Caluag was made by the officials of the DPWH to discuss with her the project which will serve as a “move towards providing safer spaces for cyclists.” [https://tinyurl.com/yrs9m8vm]
CSF, which was one of the first localities in the country to benefit from this project according to the DOTr, will soon have 37.50-kilometer-long illuminated bike lanes in various parts of the city – which will be built under three classes:
- Class 1 (separate from the road) – to be built in some parts of the Manila North Road/MacArthur Highway
- Class 2 (with physical separators and pavement markings) – to be built in some parts of the Manila North Road/MacArthur Highway, Lazatin Boulevard, and Capitol Boulevard
- Class 3 (shared roadway) – to be built in some parts of the Jose Abad Santos Avenue
