India, ADB study BGC and New Clark City as models of urban development

Officials from the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) of the Ministry of Finance of the Government of India, together with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), met with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) to study Bonifacio Global City (BGC) and New Clark City as prime examples of sound and resilient urban development.

The engagement aimed to understand the development journey of the two major growth hubs and explore best practices that could be replicated in emerging cities in India.

The Indian and ADB delegation was led by DEA Joint Secretary B. Purushartha and ADB Country Director for India Mio Oka. As part of the visit, the group toured BGC to inspect key public infrastructure within the business district.

Insights gathered from the discussions and site visit will contribute to India’s knowledge framework documents, “Cities as Growth Hubs” and “Creative Redevelopment of Cities,” which serve as guides for the strategic development of Indian cities as drivers of economic growth.

BCDA officials highlighted the role of integrated planning, public infrastructure, and sustainable development in transforming BGC and New Clark City into competitive urban centers.
