Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) has improved learning conditions in Pampanga schools by installing clean water and solar power facilities, as part of its overseas volunteer initiative.
A 32-member K-water volunteer group visited the province from August 31 to September 5, completing installations of water purification systems, solar power equipment, and drinking water supply facilities in five elementary schools. Previously reliant on manual groundwater pumps, these schools had left students at risk of waterborne diseases and frequent class disruptions caused by power outages.
Alongside the infrastructure improvements, K-water volunteers also conducted hygiene and safety education, water purification workshops, and cultural exchange activities. The project culminated in a donation ceremony on September 5, celebrated by students and local residents.
K-water has a longstanding presence in the Philippines, taking part in major infrastructure projects including the Angat Dam hydropower modernization project and the New Clark City integrated water supply and sewerage system. The latter project features the country’s first underground dam, an AI-powered water treatment plant, and smart network management for climate-resilient urban infrastructure.
“Clean water and a better living environment will firmly support the learning and growth of our students,” said Marianne D. Pineda, Principal of Gueco Balibago Elementary School.
K-water Strategic Planning Division Head Gu Ja-young emphasized the company’s global role, stating, “ESG management is a global responsibility that must be practiced beyond borders. As a global water company, K-water will continue to create a sustainable future with water, leveraging our accumulated technology and networks.”
