The Angeles City Veterinary Office, headed by Dr. Christian Xyric, rescued puppies from illegal breeders and sellers in Barangay Lourdes Sur today, 09 August.
The rescue operation was carried out upon the orders of Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin, Jr.
Personnel from Angeles City Traffic Development Office, led by Kiko Pangilinan, assisted in the rescue.
Mayor Lazatin wants to ensure the health and welfare of the dogs that are being compromised by illegal sellers. Meanwhile, Chief Adviser IC Calaguas said that the rescued dogs will be under the care of the City Veterinary Office and will be up for adoption once they complete their vaccines.
Mayor Lazatin is appealing to the public to help the city government in identifying the illegal backyard breeders and puppy mills operating in the city. He also asked the public not to buy from illegal breeders and sellers.
“Breeding regulations are important. People who are using animals for business must check first if they are abiding with Republic Act 8485, or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998,” Lazatin said.
According to Executive Assistant IV Reina Manuel, during the inspection, no proper documents were presented such as indication of proper vetting or veterinary care or records.
Lazatin said dog breeders and sellers must secure permit from the city government to ensure that animals are take care of, have a proper injections to prevent the spread of rabies, and to ensure the welfare of the animals.
Members of the City Veterinary Office were also instructed by Mayor Lazatin to crack down all the illegal breeders and sellers in the city.
Mayor Lazatin also issued a stern warning to illegal sellers and breeders — NOT IN ANGELES CITY.
