The Angeles City government kicked off the distribution of pusong mamon — a bun with malunggay — to kids aged 6-59 months old on January 3, 2024. The distribution target is 563 Angeleño kids.

Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr. led the distribution of pusong mamon to 45 kids in Barangay Lourdes Northwest and 14 more kids in Barangay Agapito Del Rosario starting today.

Two mascots named Laz and Tin – the brainchild of Mayor Lazatin – were also present during the distribution of pusong mamon to serve as the epitome of “Batang Angeleño, malusog at masigla.”

The distribution in the other barangays will be simultaneous for 90 days.

Mayor Pogi said that this project, which he had implemented since he took office, has been one of his priority missions for Angeleño kids – to end the fight against nutritional deficiencies and at the same time promote an immunized community.

“Gaya po ng ginagawa po natin noon, tayo po mismo ang gagawa nito at bababa sa mga barangay, tayo po mismo ang kakatok sa bahay-bahay upang masiguro na malusog ang pangangatawan ng mga batang Angeleños,” he said.

Mayor Lazatin remains to prioritize the fight against malnourishment, as the city recorded a 63% decrease in the rate of malnourished kids.

Records from the City Nutrition Office led by Francis De Guzman revealed that from 1,500 kids classified as malnourished in 2022, the number is now down to just 563.

The city government’s strict implementation of Operation Timbang (OPT) Plus as ordered by Mayor Lazatin, allowed the barangay nutrition staff and City Nutrition Office to properly identify undernourished kids in the city and provide appropriate intervention programs to boost their nutrition.

This is also in accordance with the guidelines of the National Nutrition Council (NCC)-Central Luzon.
