Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr. continues to provide mitigation measures in ensuring the safety of students from road-related accidents as he revitalized the city government’s Child Road Traffic Injury Prevention Program.
Last April 4, Chief Adviser IC Calaguas presided a meeting with Angeles City Traffic Development Officer Francis Pangilinan, City Engineer’s Officer-in-Charge Helen Ayro, and members of the Department of Education – Angeles City and they discussed the plan of the city government to construct humps, install traffic signages, and provide pedestrian lanes in all the school zones in the city.
Angeles City is one of the first local government units in the Philippines to enact the Road Safety Code with the help of ImagineLaw, and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
The Road Safety Code appropriates budget for road safety programs and interventions to make Angeles City roads safe for all road users.
According to Mayor Lazatin, the Road Safety Code makes Angeles City roads safe for all road users, especially the most vulnerable – children, cyclists, commuters, elderly, and differently-abled individuals.
Meanwhile, ACTDO Chief Pangilinan agreed to Mayor Lazatin’s proposed engineering and institutional intervention to mitigate and limit road-related accidents in the city.
Furthermore, Pangilinan urged motorists and drivers to respect pedestrian lanes, and reminded them to slow down and watch for pedestrians.
