Metro Clark Waste Management Corporation (MCWMC) has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing the ongoing Kalangitan landfill issue. This comes after the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Capas, Tarlac extended a temporary restraining order (TRO), preventing Clark Development Corporation (CDC) and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) from taking over the 100-hectare landfill site at New Clark City.
The court’s decision on October 8, 2024, extended the TRO by 17 days, ensuring that Metro Clark retains control of the property until October 24. MCWMC had argued that its lease for the landfill, valid until 2049 with an option to extend until 2065, had been unlawfully challenged by CDC and BCDA, which claimed that the contract had expired on October 6.
The court ruled in favor of MCWMC, recognizing its legal right to the property and blocking any attempts by CDC and BCDA to forcibly take over the landfill. CDC has stated that it will comply with the court’s order.
MCWMC emphasized the critical role the landfill plays in regional waste management and warned that disrupting operations could harm public health and the environment. The company highlighted its compliance with Republic Act 9003 and its long-standing commitment to providing secure and environmentally safe waste management services.
MCWMC remains committed to upholding its legal rights and continuing its essential services for the community.
