The Department of Transportation (DOTr), in partnership with GCash, has installed additional cashless turnstiles at MRT-3 stations to further ease passenger transactions and reduce queuing times.
The initiative is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to streamline payment systems in public transport, allowing commuters to use mobile phones, credit cards, and debit cards as alternatives to traditional beep cards and single journey tickets.
As of now, two cashless turnstiles have been deployed at both the Ayala and Cubao stations, while one unit each has been installed at the entrance and exit points of other MRT-3 stations.
The DOTr said more cashless turnstiles will be added in the coming days to accommodate growing commuter demand and enhance transport efficiency.
