The Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) lauded President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s decision to increase the 2026 Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) to ₱57 billion, more than double the ₱22 billion allocated in 2025.
In a statement, M4GG said the substantial increase underscores the critical role of local governments in delivering essential services to communities. “This move strengthens the principle of using public funds directly for the benefit of local residents, enabling LGUs to respond more effectively to local needs,” the group said.
M4GG also expressed support for the direct downloading of funds to LGUs for school construction under the Classroom-Building Acceleration Program Act, which is guided by Memoranda of Agreement with the Department of Education. By empowering local governments to implement school infrastructure projects, the initiative is expected to accelerate classroom construction, ease congestion, and ensure facilities meet actual community requirements.
The group emphasized that proper implementation—grounded in transparency, accountability, and integrity—can help restore public trust in government institutions. M4GG reaffirmed its commitment to responsible management of public funds and pledged to work closely with the national government to ensure that the 2026 LGSF strengthens local autonomy and delivers real benefits to communities.
