NBI strengthens fight against cybercrime in Central Luzon

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has intensified its fight against cybercrime in Central Luzon by boosting its digital forensic capabilities and raising public awareness.

During the 19th episode of the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas of the Philippine Information Agency, NBI Acting Regional Director Isaac Carpeso Jr. stressed the bureau’s strict enforcement of the Cybercrime Prevention Act in the region.

“We have reassigned agents from every province and provided them with specialized training on cybercrime,” Carpeso said.

He explained that these trained agents have been assigned to various district offices across the region, where their responsibilities include investigating cybercrimes and educating the public about preventive measures.

Carpeso highlighted their ongoing efforts, including recent large-scale operations targeting online scams.

“Recently, we carried out a major operation in Angeles City, Pampanga, where we arrested around 100 individuals. These individuals were operating computers to target foreign social media users through ‘love scams,’ tricking victims into fraudulent cryptocurrency investments,” he explained.

He added that the NBI has already filed charges under the Cybercrime Prevention Act against the organizers and managers of the operation.

Carpeso also encouraged individuals to actively report any form of illegal activity they encounter.

He stressed that timely reporting allows the NBI to quickly investigate and stop criminal operations before they escalate.

“To all residents of Central Luzon, if you experience any form of abuse or crime, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Report any crime to the NBI—we are always ready to assist,” Carpeso said.

For concerns or reports, the public is encouraged to contact the NBI through their Facebook page at NBI Central Luzon Regional Office III, by email at nbicelroregion3@gmail.com, or by calling (045) 455-2809.
