The Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST) is set to offer its Doctor of Medicine program beginning this academic year, following the approval from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to formally establish its College of Medicine (COM).
University President Rhodora Jugo hailed the development as a major step in NEUST’s mission to contribute to nation-building. “This is a celebration of progress and purpose—preparing future doctors not only with skills and knowledge but with empathy and dedication to public service,” she said.
“As we always say at NEUST: we nourish the mind, nurture the heart, and lead the future — now through our College of Medicine,” she added.
To ensure the program meets national standards, NEUST recently held a faculty development workshop for the COM team. Topics included curriculum planning, outcome-based education (OBE), teaching strategies, and integrating technology in medical instruction. The sessions were facilitated by Dr. Erlyn Sana and Dr. Melflor Atienza of the National Teacher Training Center for the Health Professions (NTTCHP).
COM Dean Edgardo Ortiz outlined the college’s strategic direction, stressing the importance of collaboration in building a future-ready medical education program.
CHED approved NEUST’s application to operate the first and second years of its medicine program through Commission en Banc (CEB) Resolution No. 386-2025, issued on May 13, 2025.
NEUST’s entry into medical education marks a significant expansion in its academic offerings and underscores its commitment to addressing the country’s need for more healthcare professionals.
