NLEX Corporation has been recognized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau as a Gawad Kabalikat sa Kapaligiran Awardee for its contributions to environmental stewardship and sustainability initiatives.
According to Luis S. Reñon, President and General Manager of NLEX Corporation, the recognition serves as an opportunity to inspire other organizations to take part in protecting the environment.
“Beyond proud and grateful, we see this award as a platform to influence other organizations to join our mission in protecting the environment and ensuring a greener future for the next generation,” Reñon said.
Over the years, NLEX has introduced several initiatives aimed at addressing environmental challenges. Among these is the “Road to Less Waste” program, which educates host communities on recycling and proper waste management practices.

The company has also constructed rainwater harvesting systems to improve water recycling and efficiency, and has begun integrating electric vehicles into its fleet to help reduce its operational carbon footprint.
In addition, NLEX actively supports the government-led Oplan Kontra Baha, a nationwide flood mitigation initiative focused on cleaning waterways and reducing flood risks in local government units. Through coordination with national agencies and local governments, the company provides operational support and resources to strengthen environmental resilience in affected communities.
These initiatives form part of NLEX’s broader sustainability efforts, reflecting the company’s commitment to integrating environmentally responsible practices into its operations while contributing to stronger and more resilient communities.
NLEX Corporation is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, the toll road arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation led by businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan.
