More than 50,000 youth and community volunteers joined SM Cares’ nationwide coastal cleanup efforts in 2025, collecting over 210,000 kilograms of waste from shorelines across the country. The year-long campaign culminated on November 23 with the National Day for Youth Climate in Action: “Bayanihan with a Vibe” at SM By the Bay—an event that put young people at the forefront of climate action through cleanup activities, education sessions, and a DJ-led gathering celebrating collective environmental advocacy.

Throughout the year, SM Cares—the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls—led major marine conservation efforts, including World Oceans Day in June, the International Coastal Cleanup in September, and ongoing weekly cleanup activities in select malls. These initiatives strengthen the momentum of the #SMWasteFreeFuture campaign, empowering communities to take part in restoring and protecting marine ecosystems.
“Caring for our coastlines goes beyond a clean-up activity—it’s a sustained commitment to the communities and future generations who depend on these waters,” said Engr. Liza Silerio, SM Cares Program Director for the Environment. “We’re inspired by the passion of the youth and volunteers who showed up all year. Their energy reminds us that when we come together, small acts can create waves of change.”
This year’s strong turnout—spanning students, families, local governments, partner organizations, and SM employees—signals growing public commitment to sustainability. By embedding environmental stewardship into both operations and community programs, SM Supermalls continues to foster a culture of shared responsibility for a cleaner, greener Philippines.
SM encourages more communities to join the #SMWasteFreeFuture movement and help build a sustainable tomorrow, one coastline at a time.
