PAGASA officially declares end of Southwest Monsoon Season

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced the official termination of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat season following weeks of weakening monsoon activity and shifting weather patterns.

According to PAGASA Administrator Nathaniel T. Servando, Ph.D., recent observations showed a gradual transition in the country’s weather due to the strengthening high-pressure system over East Asia and the southward migration of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ). Forecast models confirm this trend in the coming days.

The end of the Habagat season also signifies the termination of the rainy season over the western parts of Luzon and Visayas. The country is now transitioning to the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan), which PAGASA will officially declare in the coming weeks.

PAGASA assured the public that it will continue to monitor the nation’s weather and climate conditions and advised all concerned agencies to stay updated with regular advisories.

For inquiries, PAGASA may be reached through (02) 8284-0800 local 4801 (Weather Forecasting Section) or 4920/4921 (Climate Monitoring and Prediction Section), or via email at information@pagasa.dost.gov.ph and cadclimps@pagasa.dost.gov.ph
